Introducing: Sea Slug Scarf

2:09:00 AM

I've had this design swimming in my head for a while and had originally intended to use some metallic thread for it (Premier Yarns Spangle). While it looked amazing the scarf ended up being a bit too lacy for my taste and it was hard to truly see the eyelet pattern in the design. Also, from purely a designer's standpoint, it was terrible to photograph and I guess my little camera just doesn't quite have the power to capture all the sparkles and metallic shine of the yarn which made the whole thing look blah.

So, I looked in my stash and discovered a lonely skein of Caron Simply Soft Ombre yarn in Grape Purple just sitting there. I never really knew what to make with it and wasn't sure just how it would look once knit up. It felt soft enough and I love purple so decided to try it. Success! It showed off the eyelets and ruffle in the design perfectly. The ruffles, by the way, do not need to be added separately. They're part of the design and are worked into the last couple of rows of the scarf. You can use any worsted or aran weight yarn you wish but ombre, self-striping or gradient yarns definitely add an extra special touch to Sea Slug Scarf and make it look a lot more complex than it really is. ;)

The pattern is available on Ravelry here.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Summer! :)
