Ecourse: SEO for Knitwear Designers & Other Creatives

2:19:00 PM

Creating is serious business. You spend all of your time thinking up the perfect design or crafting an awesome product. You then focus on posting your work or uploading your PDFs to Ravelry, Craftsy, Etsy, your own blog or website. You've put in a hard day's work and done a fantastic job and now all you have to do is wait for the sales to roll in, right? This might be the case for a chosen few as their newly published masterpiece might be discovered right off the bat. For the rest of us, and eventually even the chosen few, we need to make sure we're found.

This is usually the last thing most creatives think about yet it's the most crucial element to making sales and running a business online. I know, I know, you'd rather be knitting, sewing, sketching or picking out the perfect yarn... just about anything other than the business side of well, the business.

In addition to being a designer, I'm also a tech nerd at heart and get really excited about all things business related. I've run a string of successful handmade and creative businesses since 2009 and have built my own websites, designed my own logos, marketed my own products etc. along the way. Throughout it all though the absolute single biggest piece of advice I can give to anyone who wants to sell online is:

Drumroll please...

You need to be found in order to get business.

Wait... that's it?

It may seem unbelieveable, but aside from the other million things you have to do for your business on a daily basis, this is the one single thing that can make or break you regardless of how stellar your design or product is. Whether you like it or not, the cold hard truth is:

If no one knows about your design or product, how will they be able to buy it?

So, what exactly is this elusive SEO anyway? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Wikipedia defines it as:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results.

That's right, FREE traffic. Who wouldn't want that?

Now is the time to get your business in gear (and found!) before the busy Fall/Winter holiday season.
Throughout this course we will focus on getting your business and products found online with concrete tips and examples, actual links to places you should be submitting your content to, exploring search engines, the power of websites and social media. This is a no-nonsense "meat and potatoes" course designed to give you the exact tools you need to help you succeed so you can continue creating and earning the well deserved income you work so hard to achieve.

This course is divided into four lessons. When you enroll, you will start with your first lesson right away. The other lessons will be sent three days apart from one another. This gives you enough time to implement the tips and digest the material yet not too long since chances are you want to get to work on improving your site's SEO immediately.

This particular course will run from April 2014 to September 2014. This is when most knitwear designers as well as creative and product based businesses gear up for their busy Fall and Winter season. The course may be repeated at a future date however.
