Hooray for New Yarn!

9:32:00 PM

It's been bitterly cold here in Philly lately and I've been housebound for most of its duration, so when the temperature reached above 30 degrees for the first time in a couple of weeks I had to make a break for it. I must admit I'm quite the homebody but even I was starting to get cabin fever.

Those who follow my blog know that I have been working furiously through my yarn stash in the final months of 2013 and promised that I would go yarn shopping in the New Year. I know it's about a month late but tons of administrative duties (new design layouts, pattern re-formats, sprucing up the website etc.) had taken up most of my time. I actually went a couple of weeks without knitting anything if you can imagine that. Yikes!

I literally ran over to my favorite LYS once the weather "warmed up" a bit. Plus, I figured I deserved to treat myself and get the old creative juices flowing again. I visited Yarnphoria and as usual was greeted by its wonderful owner and equally delightful yarn selection. I always walk in with a few yarns in mind but usually I just end up buying what appeals to me or calls out to me at the moment. Shades of green always appeal to me for some reason and I particularly can't wait to try out the almost neon shade of Misti Alpaca I purchased. And as you can see, I already used up most of the skein of Groovy. I made a hat with it and the pattern will be made available this week. The one yarn shade that sort of took me by surprise was the bright pink one on the end. The color is so gorgeous the photo doesn't do it justice. It's no secret that I love using Malabrigo yarn and this particular hue is so bright, cheery, feminine, almost Spring-like that I just had to have it. Ahhh, perhaps that's why I was drawn to it... I want Spring to return really soon.

Before I can delve into designing with this new yarn though I'm still in the midst of revamping a few of my older patterns (new yarns, new design elements, easier to follow layouts etc.) and they will be made available soon.
