Mel Gets a New Hat

8:50:00 PM

Winter is approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and I need a new hat. I'm not really a hat person per se but once the temperature dips into the 20's I'll bite. I don't really have a hat collection with that being said. I design hats and other accessories all the time though so figured it was time to design one just for me and one that I would actually wear out and about town and not feel self-conscious in.

I chose my Ribs Cables and Laces, Oh My! Beanie design and decided to make it in a blue based colorway since my coat is navy blue. Guess what? It matches perfectly! I used Malabrigo Rios yarn in the gorgeous colorway Playa. I had a piece of Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted cotton in Sleet which I used for the laces. I love the balance of ribs and mock cables in the hat. It's interesting without being too showy. The laces are striking enough. Malabrigo Rios is also a superwash yarn meaning it won't shrink or felt when you throw it in the wash. Ease of care + style= double win.

I can't wait to wear my new hat... but I can of course wait for the temperature to dip below freezing.

Update: This hat has been revamped and is now the Lace Up Ribbed Beanie Hat.
