It's Yarn Crawl Time!

12:00:00 AM

I have to admit that I'm pretty much a homebody often knitting into the wee hours of the night, especially if a design happens to pop up in my head which of course I simply have to knit right away.

Today was a gorgeous day weatherwise in Philadelphia and since I needed yarn for a couple of upcoming projects, I decided to go forth into the world and see what I could find.

I am a fierce advocate of supporting your local yarn stores (LYS) and while I'm pretty much loyal to one in particular, I decided to scope out a few other ones which I rarely visit. I put on my sneakers, light coat, grabbed my Domo bag and walked to three different locations. I sorely needed the walk anyway and the entire experience was delightful.

First stop was Rosie's Yarn Cellar. As the name implies, it's in the basement of a building. It's an adorable shop and this was only my second time visiting it. The girl at the desk was friendly and asked if I needed any help. There was also another lady there who was busy working on a scarf and kept asking the girl for help with the pattern she was working on. While I didn't purchase any yarn from here this time I will keep it in mind for upcoming projects.

Next stop was Yarnphoria. I know the owner, Dona, back from New York where she owned the shop Yarntopia. She's super friendly and extremely helpful when it comes to helping you choose yarn for projects. I love her selection and ended up purchasing some Malabrigo Sock yarn in the colorway Solis. I can't wait to start working on the project I have in mind for it. Look for it this week. :)

I finally walked back across town to Loop which I'm very familiar with since I shop there quite often. :) I guess I was a bit tired at this point in my journey so I forgot to take a pic of the shop's exterior. Doh! This place never disappoints. It's bright, clean, the staff is friendly and very helpful. I picked up some Brooklyn Tweed Loft yarn in the color Tent to complete a shawl I'm working on. This design will be available by next week.

I ended my journey by scarfing down a pumpkin cupcake from Sweet Freedom bakery. It was quite delicious and I love the fact that it's gluten-free, and in fact free from any allergens. That's good because I seem to be allergic to everything lately. :/

Today was a great day and boy did I need it. As soon as I got home I was greeted by my cats who "helped" me unwind my yarn. :)
